News from The Estates Office
Business Update #17
Fergus Ewing MSP, Cabinet Secretary for the Rural Economy and Tourism, has reassured the British Association for Shooting and Conservation (BASC), that financial provisions will be made to such businesses during the COVID-19 Pandemic.
BASC had criticised the Scottish Government over its initial lack of support for field sports, however during a phone conference between BASC and the Scottish Country Sports Tourism Group, Fergus Ewing MSP highlighted that sporting businesses had been “inadvertently excluded” from much needed support, and that details of grants for field sports organisations would be shared in due course.
This reassurance has been welcomed by BASC, after sporting businesses had been facing weeks of uncertainty following cancellations of bookings and a lack of support. Earlier in the month, BASC had highlighted how the oversight in regards to funding support will have a knock on effect for all aspects of rural tourism, including hotels, restaurants and pubs, gunsmiths, butchers and game dealers.
