COVID-19 Business Update #4

Coronavirus-related Fraud

The National Fraud Intelligence Bureau have identified hundreds of cases of fraud related to the coronavirus pandemic. These range from online shopping scams regarding PPE, to coronavirus themed phishing emails purporting to be from research groups, investment schemes, or providing lists of infected people in the area.

Action Fraud have advised you can protect yourself by:

  • Being vigilant for scam messages; Do not click any links in suspicious emails, and do not respond to any unsolicited calls or messages asking for personal or financial details
  • Take care when online shopping; Always do research when buying online from a company you do not know and trust.
  • Protect your devices from threats; Install the latest software and app updates to increase the protection on your device.

MOT Extension

MOT’s due to expire from the 30th March 2020 will automatically be granted a 6-month extension due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The announcement from the 25th March comes as the national lockdown has made it increasingly difficult for drivers to ensure their vehicle can be tested in a timely manner. There is still an expectation that the vehicles will be road worthy, and some garages will remain open for those needing urgent repairs.
