News from The Estates Office
SOLD: ancient oak woodland in Glen Nant, near Taynuilt, Argyll.
Update: land now sold.
We are pleased to bring to market, in conjunction with Knight Frank Edinburgh, a piece of land forming part of a national nature reserve in Glen Nant, Taynuilt, Argyll.
Glen Nant land extends to about 131 acres in total and is part of the Glen Nant Reserve. The sale offers the buyer the unique opportunity to contribute to the conservation of this vibrant and scenic area. The land for sale encompasses about 2.4km of the River Nant and offers glimpses of Ben Cruachan.
The undulating terrain is rich in biodiversity and is home to many species of wildlife, including red squirrels, red deer, woodpeckers, warblers and an array of moths and butterflies. The ancient oak woodland affectionately referred to as “Scotland’s rainforest”, is listed on the Scottish Biodiversity List as being of principal importance for biodiversity conservation in Scotland.
The Glen Nant land begins less than half a mile from the A85 and runs parallel for 1.5 miles along the B845, which forms part of the National Cycle Network Route 78. Historically these oak woods provided vital supplies for the local charcoal and iron smelting industry, however it now offers an almost unique opportunity to acquire land recognised with a National Nature Reserve status as well as being designated Loch Etive Woods Special Area of Conservation (SAC) and a Glen Nant Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI).
Offers in excess of £150,000
